Mother Moon: By Bob Goddard

index

“Goddard’s elegantly constructed novel evokes some of the finest traditions in science fiction, with a near future setting where the fate of humankind rests in the hands of a small colony of lunar-based scientists.” https://walkerputsche.wordpress.com/

Mother Moon is primarily set in the year 2087 and also on Earth in 1504.  These two unique stories run parallel along each other and although it is difficult to imagine at first how these two different stories link together through time and space, they do however reach a fascinating outcome, one that I didn’t see coming and I would highly recommend this book to readers who enjoy thought-provoking fiction.

I found the writing to be beautifully crafted with many remarkable, imaginative and breathtaking scenes. Goddard combines a gripping story with strong characterizations while maintaining an adventurous plot that deals with science and technology that is and will be used in the near future.

Book Review: S.Y.P.H.E.N. By Cortez Law III

51jNtQuJPlL._SX331_BO1,204,203,200_

“S.Y.P.H.E.N. is a tense military thriller that follows Lincoln Boddies and his Delta Force Operatives on a deadly mission to try and stop terrorists using a weapon of mass destruction. When Lincoln and his team are ready to close in, they encounter a bigger enemy that has the potential to destroy them all.” https://walkerputsche.wordpress.com/

The story opens when Lincoln and his crew are enjoying some leisure time in Sin City. Lincoln spots a woman in a casino and has a hunch that she maybe one of the most dangerous terror suspects in the world (A Jihad Jane). With the help from the Unit, Lincoln and their surveillance tactics lead them both to old and new Islamic enemies that are planning on using weapons of mass destruction to destroy America. Just as Lincoln and his team are about to close in on the enemies they encounter a bigger threat, the S.Y.P.H.E.N. that’s hell bent on destroying them all. Lincoln and his men are forced to work alongside the terrorists to try and eliminate the imminent threat that could potentially destroy civilization.

Law III successfully manages to build influential narratives with well-developed characters from the beginning to the end, along with an unpredictable number of twists and turns that sets the stage for more instalments in which I impatiently await.

Rarity from the Hollow By Robert Eggleton

Rarity from the Hollow
By Robert Eggleton

“Rarity from the Hollow is a harsh, yet alluring sci-fi tale of a young girl’s journey to fix her dysfunctional family and save the Universe, in a world that profits from human exploitation.”

Lacy Dawn, the main protagonist is an eleven year old girl living in poverty with her abusive father and depressed mother in the Appalachian Mountains. Lacy has an entire wood full of tree friends, a dead best friend, and an android boyfriend called, DotCom, who has a spaceship hidden in a mountain. Lacy desperately wants to fix her family and insists that DotCom must help her by plugging her parents unknowingly into a computer that she hopes will fix them. DotCom agrees on the condition that Lacy Dawn must save the Universe in exchange for the designation of Earth as a planet. Lacy agrees, unaware at first that it’s her destiny and that her personal evolution has been monitored for generations for the sole purpose on when she will be ready to sign the contract.

Eggleton successfully combines and exposes a number of disturbing issues such as child abuse, puberty, human misery and poverty from the mind of young heroine that is yearning to escape the horrors of her everyday life. Rarity from the Hollow is detailed, dark and beautifully written by a competent writer who injects plenty of satire, sci-fi and fantasy elements into a work of thought-provoking and meaningful adult/fantasy fiction at its very best.

Inventive and clever with genuine laugh-out-loud humour! “A Fistful of Clones” By Seaton Kay-Smith

A Fistful of Clones is a comedy sci-fi novel and follows the protagonist, Henry Madison, who is 26 years old and floats through life without any real desire, direction or motivation and seems to be emotionally cut off from the very few people in his life. When he loses his job as a coupon boy and his girlfriend in the same day he makes a rash decision to sign up for medical testing, so he won’t starve to death. However, a few days after he donates his various forms of DNA he receives some disturbing news from the doctor who is unknowingly constructing Henry’s clones that seven of the clones have escaped. Dr Efflund insists that only Henry can hunt them down and kill them and manages to convince a very reluctant Henry with a large amount of money and some special combat training to terminate his doppelgängers ASAP. Henry soon discovers much to his despair that his carbon copies are running around trying to ruin his life and his original mission to stop them all in a short space of time isn’t working as the clones soon develop personalities of their own. After he hesitantly murders clone number five, his conscience gets the better of him and instead of murdering the remaining two clones, he comes up with a plan to try to save them as his own life is on the line as the doctor and his ruthless associates will stop at nothing to end all traces of the scientific experiment that went horribly wrong.

Seaton Kay-Smith has created a story that is well written, inventive and clever with genuine laugh-out-loud humour that is entirely effortless and entertaining to read. It’s almost like the disarming and friendly style in which it was written wraps you up in the story and refuses to let go. Each character, especially Henry, who is my favourite, is equally flawed, believable and realistic and complements the plot’s cause and effect beautifully.

This is a novel that will stay with me for some time and is definitely one not to be missed and I highly recommend it and look forward to reading more of the author’s work in the near future.

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=Enpidra%3A+The+Exodus+Drew+Washington

This is a supremely compelling tale of a young female scientist called Shania, who is keen to find a cure for an unknown deadly disease that is claiming the lives of all her loved ones and threatening to end all human life on the damaged planet of Enpidra. As the disease continues to mutate, due to unknown factors, causing new symptoms that become almost impossible to contain, Shania and her colleagues’ work frantically against the clock to try to find a weakness they can exploit in the virus before it spreads and leaves its everlasting path of destruction on an already ravished planet that is facing the oncoming threat of extinction. Will Shania’s mission succeed? And if so, at what cost? Or will she pay the greatest price for her own demise in a race against not only against time but also against unknown creatures on her pursuit, the greed of a government and several companies whose main focus it to profit from her research.
Drew Washington has created a powerful and well written page turner with an engrossing female protagonist whose plight is believable. Enpidra: The Exodus is set in an imaginary unforgiving planetary system and will take the reader on an unforgettable journey where they can transport in to a completely different world and lose themselves completely. I would highly recommend this engaging escape from reality story to fans of science fiction and speculative fiction.

4 Star Review: Pilgrim By Terrence Atwood

51684l0QZSL._BO2,204,203,200_PIsitb-sticker-v3-big,TopRight,0,-55_SX278_SY278_PIkin4,BottomRight,1,22_AA300_SH20_OU01_

Pilgrim is a revolutionary Interplanetary Exploration probe that will be sent to a newly discovered planet in our solar system. Its mission is to seek out extraterrestrial life. However, after a few minutes after launch Pilgrim malfunctions and crashes down to earth as several members of the military beforehand have altered the probes mission. 10 hours in to its original mission Pilgrim carries on with its tasks to explore the planet’s surface, navigating through any terrain, cutting through any obstacle that gets in its way and most importantly trying to seek out new life, while simultaneously eradicating all life forms by dissecting them, breaking them down to atoms so it can transmit the data back to earth.
Catherine Tennison who is a planetary scientist that helped design and program Pilgrim unexpectedly loses her fiancée Chad, as Pilgrim kills him in cold blood before the launch. Catherine is unaware of the militaries secretive security device that they have installed into Pilgrim and goes in pursuit of Pilgrim along with Walt Macken, to try and stop it however, the tables soon turn as they soon become the hunted.
The military can’t shut Pilgrim down; they can’t bomb it, or even get near it in its wake of mass destruction, despite their best efforts. Catherine soon teams up with the military against her better judgement to check if there is a flaw in its design, or a glitch in its programming to save the world as she knows it from Armageddon. The biggest question is will she succeed, or will it be end of humanity as we know it?
Highly recommended reading for Sci-Fi fans. This author is clearly one to watch out for in the future and I look forward to reading more of his work. I would have personally like to have seen more character development with Catherine and Walt to add more substance to their desperate plight and hope in the next instalment this small issue will be addressed.
