The Fall and Rise of Peter Stoller (Peter Stoller) By M. Pepper Langlinais

51O5IZtGvPL

The Fall and Rise of Peter Stoller is a superbly crafted espionage thriller that is set in London in the 1970s where intelligence tricks such as, pseudonyms, dead letter-boxes, and secret passwords were used along with a great number of code breaking technologies.  The story follows main protagonist, Peter Stroller, who is a British Intelligence Officer and next in line to run the Agency – until he falls in love with a cab driver, Charles, and his life goes off the rails.

In summary, “The Fall and Rise of Peter Stoller” is an exceptionally well-written espionage thriller with a number of un-predictable twist and turns that will leave the reader turning those pages well in to the night to discover what happens to these wonderfully strong, well-developed and likable characters’

About the author:

Yolanda De Iuliis was born in North Ayrshire, Scotland, in 1985. She grew up with an Italian/Irish background which soon led to an awareness of identity confusion within herself. From the age of 20 she left the countryside to explore not only city life but to encounter the other side of the world and for over ten years has been travelling to every continent to gain as much knowledge and experience as possible. After ten years of writing and collecting her autobiographical poetry she published Underneath my Soul (2015) which shows her growing from adolescence to adulthood using only poetry as a means of telling her story.

De Iuliis resides in her home town of Irvine, Ayrshire, for the time being and her current academic venture is Classical Studies combined with Modern Greek. French and Greek philosophies have also been studied and observed to motivate her mind in producing different thoughts and ideas. Her passion to write and provide an insight for others is not only her mission but her reason to exist.

Hi Catherine,

Thank you for inviting me to your blog and allowing me to tell you all about my book 🙂

“We must conquer our own mind before delving into other minds”

Tuesday 9th December 2014

The start of something that I did not realise would be a one year project and journey.

During this time in 2014 I was going through some personal struggles, troubles and upheavals.  My mind set was not the strongest or the most focused it could have been and has been in the past.  Working real hard in a job which never fulfilled me, trying my very best at university with what seemed to be no hope in passing and barely paying my bills for a place I did not own.  It was a lonely time full of change and I was disappointed with the way my life was going, it seemed out of control and I could not bare this feeling anymore.  I wanted and needed things to change therefore I started to think of the change and wrote it down.  I began to write every day with whatever I was feeling, to talk to someone and to have a friend always in my mind.  Something strange started to happen whilst writing, I began to self reflect in every matter of life and my surroundings. I learned quickly that these surroundings made me who I am and pushed these thoughts into my soul.  I didn’t want to be inspired, I wanted to be the one to inspire others therefore I started to teach myself on how I could teach others by helping them through their struggles.

The first job was to help myself therefore in The Memoirs of ‘I’ (part 1- the first 6 months) is important for the reader to understand my struggles, thoughts, ideas and crazy mind.  The reader is my therapist plus my best friend and with this help brings me to write (part 2 – the last 6 months) which in turn helps the reader through their own struggles.  I give advice and reflect on matters differently and ask them questions.  I propose them to think about their own world in a way that they may never have wondered before.

I speak of matters which are sometimes ignored by the masses in regards to religion, politics, slavery, life, existence, aliens, spirits, gods, travels, poverty and every other wonder you could imagine! The purpose – To open ones mind and bring out the child within them and the sensible adult which is all in us but we push away because of different circumstances.

Writing every day was a struggle, not because I had nothing to speak about… but due to the fact that I was thinking and analysing what most of us hide behind.  I needed to push through and do it though as I would never learn about myself and which path I wanted to head down.  I don’t preach to know all the answers, but I question all to try to find some answers.  I have given the reader some blank pages to write down their own thoughts, feelings and ideas which may have occurred whilst reading my mind.

The Memoirs of ‘I’ has been one experiment in which I will never forget and I will try to remember my own advices to bring a better smile to my world and yours.

“To sought out solace within yourself is the most difficult challenge and is quickly ignored by many, it can only be achieved when you find truth within oneself”

“Stop following the con artists, instead become the greatest and brightest artist ever to exist and let others follow your light instead”

The Memoirs of ‘I’ by Yolanda De Iuliis

To make one think is to change a generation, to build one thought is to grow a better world.

In The Memoirs of ‘I’, De Iuliis covers the years 2014 to 2015, providing a daily encounter with her writings, visions, dreams and thoughts, allowing you to see the world from a different perspective. Philosophical and soulful, these memoirs offer an account of a character struggling to self reflect on a daily basis, presenting a wonderful insight into the mind of a thinker.

This is a book that should be read by anyone who wishes to see through another’s eyes, or by those who want to look anew at the simple and extreme thoughts lying behind our existence.

My Thoughts:

Firstly, I would like to thank Yolanda for contacting me and writing a guest post for my readers.  I really look forward to reading Yolanda’s memoirs and will be following up with an honest review of her work in the near future as I am currently closed for review submissions until January next year.

Forgotten Sin (Avenging Fate Book 1) By Brian Hershey

41wKvzQx0jL._SY346_

“Every once in a while I stumble across a book that quite literally blows me away in every sense of the word. Forgotten Sin by Brian Hershey is a fast-paced thriller that is stark and harrowing, with a troubled protagonist looking to escape her horrible past that is magnified with a phenomenal evil she has little control over.” https://walkerputsche.wordpress.com/

Doctor Mya Bishop has a well-established career at the University of Cambridge as a lecturer on medieval mythology and a very promising future ahead of her, but she is plagued with a harrowing secret from her past and cursed with lycanthrope, where she has the ability to shape shift into a wolf. Mya is in fact over two-hundred years old and successfully manages to hide her secret identity from the world, but she is also desperate to be free from her curse and seeks the help from an animal specialist, Marcus Holland, who Mya offers a substantial amount of money to come and observe her in her animal form.  Initially Marcus is disturbed to learn what Mya is and is reluctant to stay until he has a change of heart and decides to try and find a cure as everything he witnesses with Mya´s wolf form defies all logic.  After an experiment goes horribly wrong Mya´s real identity is discovered by a prominent member of parliament who is hell-bent on hunting her down and killing her while using his position of wealth as a means of getting tasks completed.  All of which leads to a deadly hunt where the hopes of survival on each opposing side are slim.

It’s not often I come across a book where each chapter is from the perspective of alternating characters’ and I have to say I found it highly immersing and a refreshing change to some of the werewolf fiction I have read before. I expect an exciting sequel awaiting this female heroine.

The Eye of Control: By Majid Salim

“The Eye of Control is an interesting espionage novel set in World War II.  What makes this story great it that it makes sense historically and could have taken place in 1940s London as it was thought that intelligence was the key to victory.” https://walkerputsche.wordpress.com/

In summary, “The Eye of Control” is an exceptionally well written espionage thriller with a number of un-predictable twist and turns that will leave the reader turning those pages well in to the night to discover what happens to these wonderfully strong, well-developed and likable characters.

An exceptionally well written espionage thriller!

No Grey Areas: By Joseph N Gagliano

index

“No Grey Areas is compelling memoir of Joseph N. Gagliano who orchestrated one of the largest shaving scandals in sports history. Within the pages readers will get a backstage pass into Joe’s personal story of greed, the consequences and his harrowing ride to redemption.”    https://walkerputsche.wordpress.com/

Before I read this book I had very little knowledge about the shaving scandal of 1994 and the sports gambling industry. Gagliano recounts and shares his story through a first-person narrative which is brutally honest and easy to follow, from the onset of the scandal to the devastating aftermath and how his life changed forever after it.

To be honest, I am not really a sports enthusiast but I was impressed by this book, it is well-written, compelling and an honest confession of a man who made some really poor choices when his fortune disappeared through “grey areas” of selfishness, greed, scandal and corruption.  Galliano’s unique and excruciating journey to atonement is inspirational and I would highly recommend it readers who enjoy memoirs about the sports industry.

A Promising Thriller with an Engaging Premise

What Goes Around

By Helen Donovan

What Goes Around is a promising thriller with an engaging premise, a likable heroine and a clever combination of characters that you can care about despite their fundamental flaws.”  https://walkerputsche.wordpress.com/

The story follows main protagonist Phoebe, a recent college graduate who scores a position as a researcher at the Chicago Chronicle.  Phoebe promises herself two things with her first pay check, first to treat her mom to a special dinner and the second to follow her heart and hire a detective to uncover her roots on her journey of self-discovery.  Phoebe is initially elated when the detective discovers two living relatives and envisions a wonderful reunion and jubilant future…

However, events take more of a sinister turn when Phoebe discovers she has a sister who is a suspected murder and is also the granddaughter of a convicted murder and is dragged into a world of murder, deceit and greed.

Author Helen Donovan successfully manages to combine a mixture of mystery and suspense all in one go.  This is a taunt, gripping, thriller; make no mistake and it leaves little to the imagination as the pages are turned.

I’d be interested in reading a sequel to this book and would definitely recommend it to my readers and friends.

Ice Cream Man By Evan Bollinger

index

“Bollinger constructs a plot similar to a jigsaw puzzle with thousands of pieces that eventually all come together towards the end in a way I never imagined.” https://walkerputsche.wordpress.com/

The story follows main protagonist, Lacy Stamford, a single mum who is trying hard to keep her life and the life of her children on track after the death of her husband several years ago. All of a sudden Lacy’s life is thrown into turmoil when she returns from a simple shopping errand to discover her house is on fire and that this is just the start of the horror she and her children will face in the coming days of the unexplainable house fires, hotter than hot temperatures, spontaneous combustion and people going missing.

Ice Cream Man is a taunt thriller that is infused with horror and sci-fi elements and I would recommend it to readers who enjoy dark themed and thought-provoking fiction.

Daygo’s Fury: The Daygo Stream By John F. O’ Sullivan

index

“Daygo’s Fury is dark fantasy at its best and is a great beginning to a special series. I can’t wait to read the follow-up.” https://walkerputsche.wordpress.com/
In the opening chapters the reader is transported into the world of Liam, an orphan and slum dweller, who believes he is destined for greater things. Liam’s story deals with powerful issues and takes the reader on a journey into a violent and dark world where every day is a struggle to survive in a poverty-stricken world that’s gone mad.

In the following chapters the reader is introduced to Niisa, a forest dweller, who lives in a tribe that thrive to have an intense relationship with Daygo, a celestial being. Niisa story also deals with powerful issues and takes the reader on a deep spiritual path of human failures and triumphs where the magic in the story is both beautiful and disturbing.

Both young man’s stories alternate throughout the book and although I can’t yet draw the comparison to Liam and Niisa because they live in different worlds, both dealing with completely different issues. I have no doubt in further instalments that these two very remarkable young man’s paths will cross at some point and it will be interesting to see what is in store for both of them.

With regards to O’ Sullivan’s writing, the narrative is gripping, the plotting is tight, yet what struck me as more amazing were the voices of these two main protagonists, as they drive the story along with both their emotional weight and power.

Percipience Series Book 1
By Ken Kroes

“Percipience Series is fiction at its best with a compelling factual basis. Kroes eco terrorism thriller is unsettling and puts a lot into perspective about our social structure and partnership with Mother Earth. When I read this novel, I came away with the chilling notion that it could happen sometime in the near future.” https://walkerputsche.wordpress.com/

Kroes first offering in the eco terrorism thriller genre, 2022, centres on global intimidation made by an eco terrorist constitution and the attempts to try to stop them in their tracks while setting up a large-scale experiment for sustainable living.

Perhaps the biggest element of surprise for me was the size of global themes Kroes explores. These themes not only raise awareness of important global issues we face in life, they also educate, provoke and motivate us in to doing something positive to try to save the world as we know it, before it is too late. I also admire the author’s uncanny ability to combine, espionage, murder, revenge and a hint of romance to spice up the thrillingly relentless plot.

Could 2022 be a glimpse into our own future?

I can’t wait to read the rest of the series to find out what happens and I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys fiction which explores problems that surround our precious planet.

A Writer With A Unique Voice

indexThe Blue Witch
By R.L. Baxter

Only a writer of immense confidence and talent can fashion a story that chronicles an ordinary young women from her London home to a magical and fantastical place. R.L. Baxter demonstrates his ability in this short story that follows a misguided young woman called, Ophelia on a mission to eradicate and destroy everything she dislikes with the use of her magical wands that are parting gift by goddess Athena, in the magical world of Pecopia. Instead of using the magical wands of wonder and destruction to help humanity, Ophelia uses the wands for evil and revenge that will destroy the world unless a miracle intervention can stop her from ruining humankind before it is too late.

I would highly recommend this short story to readers who enjoy sci-fi and fantasy.
