4.5 Star Book Review: Dragonfly By Resa Nelson

51WNfX8OzrL._BO2,204,203,200_PIsitb-sticker-v3-big,TopRight,0,-55_SX278_SY278_PIkin4,BottomRight,1,22_AA300_SH20_OU01_

Dragonfly is set in the medieval fantasy world and follows the life of a young woman called Greeta (Dragonfly) who lives in a small Viking village of the Shining Star people in the Great Turtle Lands. Greeta is tall, paled skinned and blonde, unlike the Shining Star people who have darker skin. All Greeta longs for is a family of her own; however her plans change when her cousin and her childhood companion talk despairingly against her. She is in turmoil as her father won’t tell her the secret about her true nature and decides that she will accept the offer of the Sharman who will show her how to walk in Dreamtime. Greeta convinces herself that this is the way she will discover the secret about her existence and to carry out her dreams of having a family, but this is where some unexpected events occur and the sudden realisation of her bad choice will haunt her forever if she can’t find a way back to her family.
Resa Nelson is a good writer worthy of her craft as she creates a world so atmospheric and perceivable that many readers will believe it really exists. Greetas plight is believable as she must learn to accept herself for who she is and I imagine a lot of readers will be able to identify with this young heroines journey.
I would highly recommend this book to all YA fantasy fans.

4 Star Review: Pilgrim By Terrence Atwood

51684l0QZSL._BO2,204,203,200_PIsitb-sticker-v3-big,TopRight,0,-55_SX278_SY278_PIkin4,BottomRight,1,22_AA300_SH20_OU01_

Pilgrim is a revolutionary Interplanetary Exploration probe that will be sent to a newly discovered planet in our solar system. Its mission is to seek out extraterrestrial life. However, after a few minutes after launch Pilgrim malfunctions and crashes down to earth as several members of the military beforehand have altered the probes mission. 10 hours in to its original mission Pilgrim carries on with its tasks to explore the planet’s surface, navigating through any terrain, cutting through any obstacle that gets in its way and most importantly trying to seek out new life, while simultaneously eradicating all life forms by dissecting them, breaking them down to atoms so it can transmit the data back to earth.
Catherine Tennison who is a planetary scientist that helped design and program Pilgrim unexpectedly loses her fiancée Chad, as Pilgrim kills him in cold blood before the launch. Catherine is unaware of the militaries secretive security device that they have installed into Pilgrim and goes in pursuit of Pilgrim along with Walt Macken, to try and stop it however, the tables soon turn as they soon become the hunted.
The military can’t shut Pilgrim down; they can’t bomb it, or even get near it in its wake of mass destruction, despite their best efforts. Catherine soon teams up with the military against her better judgement to check if there is a flaw in its design, or a glitch in its programming to save the world as she knows it from Armageddon. The biggest question is will she succeed, or will it be end of humanity as we know it?
Highly recommended reading for Sci-Fi fans. This author is clearly one to watch out for in the future and I look forward to reading more of his work. I would have personally like to have seen more character development with Catherine and Walt to add more substance to their desperate plight and hope in the next instalment this small issue will be addressed.

5 Star Review: The Dreams of Kings By David K Saunders

http://www.amazon.com/Dreams-Kings-David-Saunders-ebook/dp/B00L0KTT1A/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1429368188&sr=1-1&keywords=The+Dreams+of+Kings+By+David+K+Saunders

The Dreams of Kings is set in Medieval England during the late 15th century and cleverly manages to mix an exact timeline of events that match up with the fight for the throne between the people who were involved in the thirty years of civil unrest historians refer to as, “The War of the Roses”

The battles that took place were perhaps some of the most bewildering periods in history for England and Europe as it involved a timely power struggle between the Lancastrians and the Yorkists, in their fight for the crown.

David K Saunders skilfully steers the reader through the complexities and controversies that occurred in this period of history by bringing to life a number of authentic historical characters’. Each character has their own thoughts, theories and strategies including, treason, adultery, murder, blackmail, torture, kidnapping, theft of land and even witchcraft while cousin fights cousin and brother fights against brother in this savage conflict.

Out the many characters’ in this book, I found I was intrigued with was Simon Langford, who continued with his father’s service to restore King Henry to his rightful throne by acting as a spy at Middleham Castle in an attempt to get information on Warwick’s strategies, troop movements and anything else that would aid the Lancastrians in their victory to retrieve the crown. Although the author did admit in his closing notes that the love affair between Simon and Margret of Anjou was purely fictitious, it was still highly engaging and a stroke of genius to add this slant as Margret did seem to have a sexless marriage to Henry.

The torture scenes are not for the faint hearted, especially with John de Bothall, as he was sentenced to a traitors death, which included many of his body parts being cut off and burnt in a brazier in front of his eyes, his arms and legs hacked off and then finally his head.

All of which leaves me to close, that David K Saunders knows his subject very well and writes with considerable insight into the power struggle and battles fought by the clashing fractions for the reigns of kings in the 15th century.

A Highly Addictive Conspiracy Story! Spy in Chancery (A Craig spy thriller Book 2) By Kenneth Benton

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005I55W8M/ref=rdr_kindle_ext_tmb

Spy in Chancery is a highly intelligent Cold-War-era espionage thriller set in Rome in the 1970´s where intelligence tricks such as, pseudonyms, dead letter-boxes, and secret passwords were used along with a great number of code breaking technologies.

Peter Craig is an undercover policeman who is called in by the Secret Security Service (S.3) to help them find a KGB spy somewhere in the British Embassy, as one of their MI6 agents has just been murdered. Craig has no connection with the Intelligence Service or with BX.32´8s activities and the S.3 supply him with the perfect cover story on his mission to Rome where he is expected to attend an Interpol meeting that will last for two weeks and also carry out a security inspection at the British Embassy. After a short briefing on his forthcoming mission Craig arrives in Rome where he meets another security agent who will help him along with Sir Watkyn (Ambassador of the English Embassy) who is keen to find out which member of his staff is the traitor, despite the fact that he has a great dislike for the spy business. Craig soon begins to narrow down a list of possible suspects and has them followed in an attempt to gather evidence against them and eventually discovers a breakthrough that will give him an advantage and keep him one step ahead of the spy, unaware he may be risking more than his own life and the lives of more innocent people in this complicated game of high-level politics, covert missions and secret agency cover ups.

In summary, “Spy and Chancery” is an exceptionally well written espionage thriller with a number of un-predictable twist and turns that will leave the reader turning those pages well in to the night to discover what happens to these wonderfully strong, well-developed and likable characters’

This is the first book I have read in the Kenneth Benton Spy Series and can honestly say I am hooked and cannot wait to read more of this late authors work.

5 Star Review: The Pool Boy’s Beatitude By DJ Swykert

http://www.amazon.com/The-Pool-Boys-Beatitude-Swykert-ebook/dp/B00E2UW63S/ref=cm_cr_pr_pdt_img_top?ie=UTF8

Jack Joseph is the main protagonist who is a functioning alcoholic, womanizer, weed smoker, physics philosopher and swimming pool cleaner that holds a master’s degree in particle physics. His marriage is in turmoil due to his heavy drinking and broken promises to his wife who eventually kicks him out. Jack has a lot of emotional and financial worries going on in his life that he needs to clean up, but just like his physics states, everything is in a state of flux, decomposition and failure and he finds it hard to get motivated and address these issues until he meets Sarah…

After meeting Sarah, Jack begins to self medicate and runs down his own detox program and discovers love for the first time in his life beyond himself. He uses a mix of Xanax and Valium to wean himself off the alcohol. However, with his ex-wife filing for a divorce and his other girlfriend Rosemary, he finds himself caught up in a web of deceit he struggles to break free from. Jack makes a commitment to Sarah but still has an obligation to Rosemary who bailed his sorry arse out of jail and gave him cash and drugs with the possibility of a new home as she has friends in real estate.

With Rosemary, Jack crosses the threshold in to Rosemary’s abyss away from everything he said he wouldn’t step away from love, Sarah, an honest relationship, breaking free from his drug orbit and unhooking himself from his habits. No longer Rosemary’s pool boy and casual lover, he soon becomes her servant as she is his lifeline to drugs and Rosemary eventually becomes his benevolent, malevolent and benefactor.

Will Jack come clean to Sarah, who is his lifeline to his spirit and soul? Or will he revert back to his old habits? Or will he succeed for a change?

DJ Swykert successfully manages to create a great first person narrative that sucks the reader into Jacks world to such a degree it seems effortless which leads me to conclude that DJ Swykert is a master of an incredibly complex art that is conspicuously challenging to any author.

5 Star Review: To The Gallows The Legend of Cole Winters By G.S. Luckett

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00SZGM88I/ref=pdp_new_dp_review

To the gallows is set in the 19th century in the untamed frontiers in Western American. Cole Winters is an African-American cowboy and also a U.S. Marshall. When Cole discovers his brother in law, Joseph Two Guns is a wanted man for a crime he swears he did not commit. Cole goes on a deadly mission to rescue Joseph from becoming another innocent victim of a lynch mob who wants to take the law in to their own hands and exercise their own type of rough justice. Cole manages to rescue Joseph in time from a one manned jail along with a woman called Jessie who is also being accused of a murder she did not commit before Fournier and his two Indian trackers catch up with them.

Fournier’s posse of five go in search for Joseph picking up more pawns on the way to help them with their search.

As the story unfolds Jessie discovers her sister, Kaye has been taken by Sheriff Brood and his men against her will. Cole and Joseph go on a rescue attempt to save Kaye and manage to rescue her from Sheriff Brood by winning a gamble where Joseph must fight to his death with Sheriff Brood’s best boxer.

Jesse discovers Coles secret, a deep secret he hasn’t shared with Joseph yet, that the men who are tracking Joseph down are hired by the same man who killed Coles wife and son and they will stop at nothing as Cole went on to kill the men who killed his family in revenge and he now has a bounty of 8,000 dollars resting on his head. Cole conducts a plan to get Joseph and the girls to safety by handing himself over to Fournier in the hope it will give them enough time to escape and this is when the real showdown begins with Fournier and his ever-growing new recruits who are thirsty for the bounty on both brothers’ heads. Will Fournier’s posse of thirty men succeed in their mission? Or have they underestimated the sheer force of the two brothers’ in all out shoot out?

G.S. Luckett manages to successfully combine a number of distinctive characteristics such as, a sense of time, place and setting in a time where law and order often caused conflict and unrest between the settlers and the Indians. The reader is taken on a breathtaking journey back to an unforgettable time in history. Not only this but this story is action-packed from the beginning to the end with an unpredictable number of twists and turns that sets the stage for more instalments in which I impatiently await.

5 Star Review: GENIUS INTELLIGENCE: Secret Techniques and Technologies to Increase IQ THE UNDERGROUND KNOWLEDGE SERIES By James & Lance Morcan

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00QXQQWXO/ref=cm_cr_mts_prod_img

The authors´ most crucial discovery is that, “Human intelligence is not necessary something you were born with or genetically predisposed towards. In fact in most instances of above-the-ordinary intelligences are usually acquired through superior learning techniques!”

Genius Intelligence is a thoroughly interesting and thought-provoking guide on practical methods, techniques, accelerated learning methods and the use of chemicals that are used to help improve IQ. The authors´ explore a great number of superior cognitive techniques of brain enhancing technologies such as, genius techniques used by the élite, outrunning the conscious mind, the high IQ diet along with many more useful modus operandi methods that are not often disclosed to the public. The authors´ challenge the old age myth that geniuses are born and not developed. They don’t dismiss that there are a minority of humans that are born with these amazing possibilities that are not fostered by educational methods, but their research has revealed that these naturally born geniuses are the exception, not the norm.

Until now, I wasn’t aware of the substance called “Ormus” aka “White Gold” that was discovered by David Hudson, a cotton farmer and wealthy businessman in 1975. Hudson discovered that when he put the unusual looking white powder out to dry in the hot Arizona sun, it radically changed – from powder to oil! Hudson went on to conduct scientific analysis of the substance and confirmed that the substance seemed to have odd properties that defy the laws of nature. Hudson also claimed that the substance can repair the body on a genetic level and Lt. Lawrence F. Frego who wrote about Ormus´ positive impact on human intelligence in his book “An End To All Diseases” agrees with this theory. With many commercial manufacturers’ websites testimonials from their customers who claim it cures a lot of serious illnesses, including mental disorders, diabetes, heart disease and various anti-aging results have also been reported, it’s no wonder a number of celebrities are enthusiastic for this drug and I along with many others will look forward to mainstream studies in the near future.

I would like to personally thank and congratulate the authors´ for producing such an informative, well researched, stimulating and exciting book that will inspire and educate many people who are looking to enhance their journey and improve their mental and physical health.

4 Star Review: The Simulations By John Forelli

This delightful, comical and highly entertaining story starts when the Ray Ality, the main male protagonist goes for a job interview. Ray has high expectations as he is fresh out of college with new ideas about statistical formatting and is excited at the prospect that he will get to use his advanced technical skills in a company that uses the latest software. However, he is soon informed that his duties will be beneath his abilities and accepts the job anyway as he feels it a fair price to pay to start his professional career.
A few days later Ray, greets the Delilah again, the friendly and extremely attractive receptionist and is introduced to the rest of the team he will be working with. He perceives these new co-workers as a strange bunch of people. First Ray is introduced to Tom, who works in Human Resources who tries to lower his starting salary and takes an instant dislike to him as Tom clearly states that Ray wasn’t his preferred choice for the position. Secondly, Ray is introduced to his new cubical partner, Jordan, who listens to classical music and drinks red wine. The rest of the team consists of a woman called Margie, who has a distinctive limp and airs her loud, profound and profane rants out daily on the telephone with her husband that Ray finds very disturbing as she is situated in the next cubical. There are several more strange and eccentric characters he can’t quite work out and ends up befriending Bob, who works in the server room number 42. Bobs sole wish seems to be chomping down on Cheetos, playing the Sims, while smoking weed and eating junk food. Ray finds Bob a welcomed distraction away from his repetitive and mundane tasks he has to perform on a daily basis. In an attempt to win Delilah’s heart over they start to rip data from Delilah’s social media accounts to get the metadata they need to put into her new file. The servers can hack in to all her private messages, email, text messages etc, so it will provide them with a perfect information avatar. Bob combines the source code for the Sims and Eclipse and uploads all of Delilah’s information and pictures to the program and uses it to create her Sim in order to run a number of simulations for Ray to try out. However, the simulations become repetitive as Ray becomes more and more absorbed with the oculus virtual reality headset and is unable to distinguish between two different realities.
Will Rays and Bob’s attempts win over Delilah, the receptionist’s heart? And if so, at what cost?
Highly recommended reading for virtual reality fans that have a sense of humour and enjoy a plot with plenty of twist and turns.
